The Huawei MateBook X Pro was one of the most striking laptops of 2018, and although the manufacturer has not renewed it, an interesting derivative version of that equipment has been taken out of the sleeve .
This is the Huawei Matebook 13 , a laptop more “gray” in general terms: it is more conventional in many of its sections, and even returns to the top frame the webcam that the MateBook X Pro hid so original. Still attentive, because this pure laptop (not convertible) has its tricks.
A cheaper alternative that fills an interesting hole
Until now Huawei offered two very different ranges: the MateBook X Pro that we analyzed a few months ago was its star portable equipment, and if you wanted something more modest you could go to the MateBook D and MateBook E ranges, but they were 14 and 15 inch computers that for certain users ** they could become too bulky.
The MateBook 13 precisely ** tries to give an alternative in that gap , and allows access to a team with part of the performance of the MateBook X Pro in smaller dimensions.
The price is lower and that imposes sacrifices, with one especially striking: the webcam returns to its usual position in the upper frame of the screen, although neither this nor the sides are barely pronounced. Huawei for example boasts and indicates that 88% of the entire front is that 13-inch screen (non-touch) with 1440p resolution and 3: 2 format instead of the traditional 16:10 or 16: 9 other laptops.
Yes we have the button comedy of encedido that is fingerprint reader , and in the design that elongated trackpad surprises that takes a lot along and not so much on top. The weight is also reduced and stands at 1.28 kg.
Two configurations, somewhat limited battery
The battery has a capacity of 41.7 Whr , a figure certainly limited that could not give too many joys if you need a team with a high autonomy, something that is partly to blame the design of the team, with a thickness of only 14 , 9 mm.
That thickness seems to be enough to accommodate a new cooling system called Shark Fin 2.0 , a fan capable of cooling the components reaching to rotate at 8,000 rpm.
The equipment can be found in two configurations: one with a Core i5, 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of SSD, and another with a Core i7, 8 GB of RAM, 512 GB of capacity and an NVIDIA GeForce MX150 graphics that will help in graphic tasks and also in light play sessions.
There are also sacrifices in connectivity, since we only have two USB-C ports with USB 3.1 interface, although the box includes a dock that adds a USB 3.0 port, another USB-C, a VGA and an HDMI. The 65 W charger allows you to quickly charge the equipment, and according to the manufacturer in just 15 minutes we can get enough charge to work “on office tasks” 2 hours and a half.
Price and availability of Huawei MateBook 13
Huawei has indicated that the new MateBook 13 will be available later this month at a price that will be $ 999 for the model with the Intel Core i5 and will reach $ 1,299 for the model with the Intel Core i7.
